Conserving Bounties Society Unveils New Collaborative Model to Strengthen Surplus Food Management in Hospitality Sector
With Gulf Hotels Group as First Partner
Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain – 26 July 2026: Conserving Bounties Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing food waste in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has announced a new partnership model for the tourism and hospitality sector, aimed at enhancing the operational sustainability of surplus food management processes. Gulf Hotels Group, Bahrain’s leading hospitality company, is the first hotel operator to adopt the model, reflecting its diligence to socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business practices.
As part of the partnership, Gulf Hotels Group will implement the initiative across its hospitality portfolio, including Gulf Hotel Bahrain, Gulf Convention Center, Crowne Plaza Bahrain, Novotel Bahrain Al Dana Resort, and Gulf Catering. Through the participation of these establishments, the Group will contribute to covering a portion of the operational costs associated with the collection, packaging, transportation, and distribution of surplus food, supporting the Society’s efforts to deliver meals safely and efficiently to beneficiary families across the Kingdom. This initial engagement represents an important step toward encouraging more tourism and hospitality establishments to join the initiative, which extends its reach and fosters a culture of sustainability and food waste reduction across the Kingdom.
The strategic cooperative agreement between Conserving Bounties Society and Gulf Hotels Group was formalized on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, at Al Murjan Hall, Gulf Convention Centre. The signing ceremony was attended by members of the Society’s Board of Directors and representatives of Gulf Hotels Group, including Mr. Ahmed Janahi, Group Chief Executive Officer; Mr. Charbel Hanna, Area General Manager of Bahrain Hotels; Mr. Raed Mayoof, General Manager of Gulf Catering; and Ms. Noor Alhayki, Head of Corporate Communications and Marketing.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. Abdullatif bin Abdullah Al Rajhi, Chairman of Conserving Bounties Society, said: “This model marks an important evolution in our engagement with the hospitality sector. It broadens the sector’s contribution from providing suitable surplus food to also helping maintain the logistics required to deliver it safely and promptly to families. We appreciate Gulf Hotels Group for being the first to join this program and hope it encourages wider participation across the industry.”
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Janahi, Group Chief Executive Officer of Gulf Hotels Group, added: “At Gulf Hotels Group, we are steadfast in building partnerships that create shared community value and support the Kingdom’s priorities in sustainability and social responsibility. The new framework is expected to ease the operational and logistical pressures associated with food preservation and redistribution, allowing Conserving Bounties Society to expand its services portfolio and benefit a greater number of families. The Society also aims to scale the initiative across Bahrain’s tourism and hospitality industry, encouraging responsible consumption and reducing avoidable food waste.
Established in 2014 as the first food bank in the Kingdom of Bahrain, Conserving Bounties Society collects suitable surplus food and distributes it directly to families, conducts public awareness campaigns, and advocates for legislation and measures that help prevent food waste. Its work so far has supported more than 3,000 families and 5,000 individuals, while also preserving approximately 230 metric tons of surplus food during 2025 alone. Furthermore, with a strengthened governance structure, the Society draws on the extensive expertise of its leadership team to direct its institutional efforts toward advancing long-term food security across the Kingdom.
